National Sports Day
On Friday, Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal, grandly celebrated National Sports Day on the college premises. The event was attended by College Director Mr. G. Hemanth Reddy, faculty members, and students.
As part of the National Sports Day celebrations, the college conducted various sports events for students including Chess, Carroms, Shuttle Badminton, and Tug of War, in which students participated with great enthusiasm.
The event commenced by garlanding the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player, in whose honor the day is celebrated across India.
Director Mr. G. Hemanth Reddy, in his address, stated:
Every year, our college organizes National Sports Day with competitive sports events to encourage physical activity among students. Just as we give importance to academics, equal priority is given to sports in our institution. The college is well-equipped with facilities like a shuttle badminton stadium, rifle shooting area, and tennis court, among others.
He emphasized that sports are not just a recreational activity but play a crucial role in mental and physical well-being. In today’s world, many students neglect physical activities while focusing solely on academics. But sports are equally essential. Participating in them can reduce stress, improve health, and enhance discipline. He encouraged all students to actively take part in sports along with their studies.
Mr. Intiyaz Ahmed shared:
Sports are an integral part of a well-balanced life. Just like education, physical fitness is vital. Through active participation in sports, students can maintain both physical and mental well-being. He mentioned that India has produced several legendary athletes such as PT Usha (Udanpari), Sachin Tendulkar (Master Blaster), and Major Dhyan Chand (The Hockey Wizard) — icons who continue to inspire generations.
Ratna Sir commented:
Nowadays, academics receive most of the attention, while sports are often overlooked. While education is undoubtedly important, sports help in maintaining good health and mental focus. He urged students to participate in the college’s sports competitions and treat sports as a vital aspect of personal development.
Ms. Karuna added:
To maintain overall health—both physical and mental—sports are essential. Participating in games helps boost concentration, focus, and academic performance.
