International Mother Language Day
The International Mother Language Day program was grandly organized on 21-02-2026 at Sri Ramakrishna Autonomous Degree College under the auspices of the Telugu Department. The event aimed to instill awareness among students about the importance of the mother tongue and the need to preserve languages. A large number of students attended the program held on the college campus.
The program was presided over by Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of Ramakrishna Educational Institutions. In his address, he stated that the mother tongue is the foundation of our thoughts and the most natural medium for expressing emotions. He emphasized that when education is imparted in the mother tongue, students not only understand concepts better but also develop creativity.
He further said that the youth should take pride in the rich history and literary heritage of the Telugu language, read the biographies of great personalities, and cultivate the habit of reading books. He also mentioned that the National Education Policy 2020 gives greater importance to mother tongues, literature, arts, and regional art forms.
Inspirational Speeches by Chief Guests
The chief guest of the program was Dr. Gelivi Sahadevu, a prominent doctor from Nandyal and President of Surana Saraswata Sangham. In his speech, he said that due to the impact of globalization many languages are gradually disappearing, and in such circumstances protecting the mother tongue has become the responsibility of every citizen. He explained that culture survives only when language survives, and society remains strong when culture is preserved.
He encouraged students to read classical Telugu works such as the poems of Vemana, Sumati Satakam, and Krishna Satakam, memorize verses, and develop an interest in Telugu literature. He added that Telugu is a language suitable for speech, song, poetry, and classical verse.
Another chief guest, noted advocate and President of Sahiti Sravanti M. Srinivasa Murthy, stated that the Telugu language possesses immense literary wealth and has the ability to express emotions in a deeply touching manner. He advised students to learn English but not neglect their mother tongue, and to use Telugu in their daily lives. He also emphasized that schools and colleges should give greater importance to the Telugu language.
College Principal K. B. V. Subbaiah spoke about the significance of International Mother Language Day and urged students to recognize the simplicity and sweetness of their mother tongue.
Faculty member A. S. Pragathi encouraged students to appreciate the importance of their mother language while also mastering global languages like English. She noted that mother tongues are closest to our natural expressions, and our true emotions are often conveyed most naturally in them. She advised students not to forget their native language while learning English for employment opportunities.
The organizers stated that such programs are being conducted to increase awareness and interest among students regarding the importance of the mother tongue.
The speeches and discussions on the importance of the Telugu language during the event created meaningful awareness among students and inspired them to think about language preservation.
At the conclusion of the successful event, the college management felicitated the chief guests with shawls, flower garlands, and mementos. The organizers expressed their gratitude to the chief guests and the president of the program.
The event was attended by Telugu Department faculty members Dr. Lalitha Saraswati, Mohan Rao, Satyanarayana, Mastan, along with many students.
