Vijaya Kiranam / Nandyal Correspondent: Discipline is extremely important for students to achieve their higher goals, said Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Educational Institutions.
An orientation programme for first-year degree students was organized in a grand manner on Wednesday at Sri Ramakrishna Degree Autonomous College in Nandyal. The programme commenced with Saraswati Puja, following which Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy attended the event as the Chief Guest and addressed the students.
He said that the college had been granted Autonomous status, along with UGC recognition and NAAC ‘A’ Grade accreditation, and expressed his pride that the institution is among the leading colleges in the state in providing quality education and promoting skill development.
He advised students to make proper use of the state-of-the-art facilities available at the college throughout their three-year academic journey. He encouraged them to develop into individuals with strong character and personality and to shape themselves into responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to their families, society and the nation.
During the programme, students were given an overview through a PowerPoint presentation of the various facilities available at the college, including the library, spacious classrooms, digital boards, indoor stadium, rifle shooting facility, computer laboratories, NCC and NSS.
Following the presentation, Dr. Ramakrishna Reddy clarified several doubts and queries raised by the students.
Focus on Bringing Out Students’ Skills
College Principal K.B.V. Subbaiah welcomed the new students and said that the college continuously strives to identify and develop the talents and skills hidden within every student.
Director P. Pragathi said that encouraging every student to pursue their studies responsibly is one of their primary responsibilities. She advised students to maintain discipline and assured them that the college would extend all possible support and cooperation to help them succeed.
Later, the faculty members introduced themselves to the newly admitted students.
The programme was attended by faculty members including Dr. U.V.S. Kumar, Sampath Kumar, Dr. Pullaiah, Dr. Lalitha Saraswathi, Muralidhar, Andrews, Mrs. Himabindu, Maddileti, Shivaraju, Satyanarayana Reddy, Mastan and Vijay Kanth, along with a large number of students.
Literacy is the Foundation for Social Progress and Peace
An awareness programme was grandly organized on the occasion of International Literacy Day at Sri Ramakrishna Degree Autonomous College on Tuesday, under the auspices of the Departments of Commerce and Telugu. As every year, International Literacy Day is being observed across the world to highlight the importance of literacy and education.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of the educational institutions, who attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ramakrishna Reddy said that literacy is not merely the ability to read and write, but is a basic human right of every individual. It provides people with dignity, equality and better opportunities. He called upon youth, governments, voluntary organizations, teachers and citizens to work together as partners in building an illiteracy-free society.
He observed that in the past, an illiterate person was often viewed as an oddity, whereas today, there are many people in society who may be literate but lack adequate knowledge and awareness. Therefore, he emphasized the need to come out of the darkness of ignorance and develop knowledge through education.
He encouraged the students to share the education they have received with at least ten people in their respective villages or communities and help spread literacy. He stated that true literacy is not merely learning letters, but acquiring knowledge that contributes to the welfare of society.
He further noted that although the world has made remarkable progress in literacy rates over the past six decades, significant challenges still remain. According to him, around 739 million young people and adults worldwide still lack basic literacy skills.
College Director P. Pragathi Madam said that it is the responsibility of everyone in society to encourage and support people to pursue education.
Similarly, College Principal K.B.V. Subbaiah highlighted the importance of literacy in the development of individuals, societies and nations. He stated that UNESCO declared September 8 as International Literacy Day in 1966, and that the day has been observed annually since 1967.
The B.Sc. and B.Com. students spoke about the significance of International Literacy Day and its 60th anniversary. They explained that the official theme announced by UNESCO for this year is “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.” The theme emphasizes the crucial role of literacy in promoting environmental protection, a peaceful society and economic growth. The students explained the theme and its significance very effectively.
The programme was made successful with the participation of Dr. Lalitha Saraswathi, Head of the Department of Telugu; Dr. Pullaiah, Head of the Department of Commerce; members of the Computer faculty; and a large number of students.
Sri Ramakrishna Degree College in Nandyal celebrated Teachers’ Day in a grand manner on Saturday, with the active participation of the college management, faculty members, and students.
College Principal Dr. K.V.V. Subbaiah and Dean of Student Affairs Mrs. A.S. Pragathi attended the celebrations as the chief guests. A large number of faculty members and students participated in the programme.
The celebrations commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and offering floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India and recipient of the Bharat Ratna.
On the occasion, students delivered speeches highlighting the significance of celebrating the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as Teachers’ Day. They praised teachers as the architects who shape students’ lives, guide them towards a bright future, and bring out their hidden talents and potential.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Faculty Member Mr. Pothula Ratna Reddy said:
“The responsibility of teachers does not end with teaching textbooks within the four walls of a classroom. True education lies in developing the moral courage to face the challenges of everyday life, cultivating human values, and showing respect towards elders. Every student should develop a noble personality that seeks the welfare of society rather than living solely for personal gain, and should never intend harm to others. A teacher alone possesses the power to dispel the darkness of ignorance and kindle the light of knowledge. A society that respects and values teachers will always occupy a higher position. Students should always respect the teachers who have contributed to their growth and success.”
Addressing the gathering, College Principal Dr. K.V.V. Subbaiah said:
“Although Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan rose to the highest positions in the country as a scholar, Vice President, and President of India, he took immense pride in identifying himself primarily as a teacher. His contributions to the field of education are unforgettable. No matter how high students rise in life after completing their education, or what prestigious positions they may hold in society, they should never forget their first teachers who imparted knowledge and values to them. Only then will their education attain its true purpose.”
Dean of Student Affairs Mrs. A.S. Pragathi said:
“The role of teachers in personality development and in shaping the future of an individual is invaluable. The true significance of the discipline and values taught by teachers becomes fully evident when students move beyond their student life and step from the college campus into the wider world. When our college alumni return to the institution after achieving success and attaining respected positions in society, it is the responsibility of the present students to look up to them as role models and extend them due respect.
“Furthermore, such platforms should not be limited merely to speeches by faculty members. They should also become platforms where students can fearlessly express their independent thoughts and creativity. The true educational process is completed only when students take initiative and confidently share their ideas and opinions.”
At the conclusion of the programme, the college management and students jointly felicitated all the faculty members by presenting them with shawls and floral garlands as a mark of respect and appreciation.
The celebrations concluded successfully with the singing of the National Anthem.
Grand Celebration of “National Sports Day” at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College
Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal, celebrated “National Sports Day” in a grand manner on Saturday under the auspices of the college management.
The programme was attended by College Chairman Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Director Dr. G. Hemanth Reddy, Principal Dr. K.V.V. Subbaiah, Dean of Student Affairs A.S. Pragathi, Placement Officer M. Imtiaz Ahmed, distinguished guests including V. Vijay Kumari, Physical Director of Kalasala, Dr. Vamsidhar Reddy, Ms. Leena, Dr. Shiva Reddy, faculty members, and a large number of students.
The programme commenced with students enthusiastically sharing their experiences and views about sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Faculty Member Ms. Sravani expressed her happiness over the large-scale participation of students in sports. She stated that the Sports Management team had conducted the competitions transparently over the past month and, under the supervision of Director Dr. G. Hemanth Reddy, students from all departments were encouraged equally.
The Chief Guest, Ms. V. Vijay Kumari, recalled that National Sports Day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. She encouraged students to actively participate in sports to enhance their physical and mental development and to shape a bright future.
Dean of Student Affairs A.S. Pragathi stated that participation is more important than winning or losing in competitions. She explained that sports teach essential qualities such as discipline, commitment, and the mental maturity to accept defeat. She also called upon the present generation to reduce excessive mobile phone usage and focus more on physical fitness.
Placement Officer M. Imtiaz Ahmed highlighted that sports contribute not only to physical fitness but also to the development of leadership skills, teamwork, and stress-management abilities. He stated that in today’s competitive world, corporate organisations recognise not only academic excellence but also the personality development and confidence gained through participation in sports. He encouraged students to actively participate in sports along with their academic pursuits in order to build successful careers.
College Director Dr. G. Hemanth Reddy observed that many youngsters today are becoming increasingly confined to mobile phones and television. He encouraged students to develop the habit of playing outdoor games every day. He emphasised that learning from defeat and preparing oneself for the next match is the true essence of sportsmanship.
He further stated that August 29 is a highly significant day for celebrating sports, and announced that the overall champion would be decided based on the points awarded for each sport. He also announced that the Rolling Trophy would become the permanent possession of the team that wins it consecutively three times.
Dr. Shiva Reddy appreciated the college for giving the highest priority to sports and organising such programmes. He stated that it was a matter of pride that the college had established itself as a leading institution in sports.
Addressing the gathering, College Chairman Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy stated that students who excel in both education and sports can build a bright future. He said that achieving success at the national and international levels in sports can open up excellent employment opportunities.
He recalled that the college had won the South Zone Shuttle Badminton competitions three times in the past and mentioned that one of the college’s women athletes had reached the international level and secured employment with Indian Railways. He advised students to consider sports with relatively less competition, develop expertise in them, and aim for higher levels of achievement.

Nandyal, August 29, 2026: Telugu Language Day was celebrated grandly at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal, under the aegis of the Department of Telugu, to commemorate the birth anniversary of renowned linguist and pioneer of the Vyavaharika Bhasha Movement, Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy Pantulu.
College Chairman Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy presided over the programme, while noted advocate and Sahiti Sravanthi President Mr. M. Srinivasa Murthy attended as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ramakrishna Reddy said Gidugu Ramamurthy Pantulu played a historic role in making Telugu simple and accessible to the common people by promoting the spoken form of the language. He expressed concern that increasing preference for English-medium education was distancing children from their mother tongue. He emphasised that preserving Telugu means preserving our culture, identity and heritage, and encouraged students to develop a strong interest in Telugu language and literature.
Chief guest Mr. M. Srinivasa Murthy highlighted Gidugu Ramamurthy’s historic contribution in bringing the spoken form of Telugu into education, literature and administration. He urged students to respect and promote their mother tongue and encouraged them to connect Telugu with modern technology.
Students were given awareness about the importance of Telugu and the contributions of Gidugu Ramamurthy Pantulu. They also took a pledge to contribute to the preservation of the Telugu language.
Retired Telugu lecturer Mr. Neelakantam Achari presented a special poem on Gidugu Ramamurthy. The guests were felicitated by the college management with shawls and mementos. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.

Nandyal, August 28, 2026: The 10-day ‘Hackathon – An Innovator Marathon’ organised at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal, to bring out the creativity and innovative potential of students concluded successfully on Friday.
College Chairman Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Director Dr. G. Hemant Reddy and Dean of Student Affairs A.S. Pragathi attended the valedictory programme. Commerce HoD Pullaiah, Botany faculty member Andrews, and Placement Officer Intiyaz Ahmed served as judges for the final round. Faculty members Prathyusha and Swathi Reddy coordinated the programme.
Students selected for the final round presented innovative projects and ideas aimed at addressing various social problems before the judges.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy said that innovation is a driving force for national development and encouraged students to move beyond job-seeking and become job creators. He said the college aims to identify hidden talent among students and nurture them into future entrepreneurs and startup leaders.
Dean A.S. Pragathi said continuous learning and a research-oriented mindset are essential for success. She appreciated the students for demonstrating strong problem-solving and team leadership skills and assured that the college would provide technical support, mentorship and guidance through its Atal Incubation Centre to further develop the winning projects into commercially viable products.
Jaya Lakshmi and Team won the first prize, Rohini and Team secured second place, and D. Parthasarathi won third place. The winners received trophies and certificates of appreciation, while all participants were presented with participation certificates.

Nandyal, August 21, 2026: An Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme was organised at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal, in collaboration with IIITDM Kurnool, with support from the Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
The programme aimed to create awareness among aspiring entrepreneurs, innovators and entrepreneurs about entrepreneurship, protection of intellectual property, government schemes and opportunities to transform innovations into successful businesses.
Sri Chandrasekhar Rao, General Manager of the District Industries Centre (DIC), Nandyal, attended as the chief guest. He explained the objectives and benefits of the RAMP Scheme and the various support and incentives available to entrepreneurs and MSMEs through the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
College Chairman Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy and Director Dr. G. Hemant Reddy participated in the programme. Dr. Hemant Reddy encouraged participants to develop innovative thinking and an entrepreneurial mindset. He also highlighted the role of the college’s ATAL Incubation Centre, skill development programmes and other initiatives in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Ashok, a registered Trademark and Patent Agent from Hyderabad, provided practical insights into IPR, patents and trademarks, explaining the importance of legally protecting innovations and developing them commercially.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Visweswara Reddy of IIITDM Kurnool. Special appreciation was expressed to Mr. Vishwa, CEO, Andhra Pradesh MSME Development Corporation, for his financial support and encouragement.
Nandyal, August 19: Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal, organised a programme to mark World Photography Day. Chief guest Dr. Vamsidhar Reddy and College Director Dr. G. Hemant Reddy participated in the programme.
Addressing the students, Dr. Vamsidhar Reddy said that photography is not merely about capturing an image, but is a powerful art that preserves history, emotions, culture, nature and unforgettable moments. A good photograph can convey many messages and help preserve memories for future generations. He appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students.
College Director Dr. G. Hemant Reddy explained the importance of visual storytelling in modern digital media and encouraged students to develop technical and creative skills alongside their academic education. He said photography teaches people not only to see, but also to observe, think and appreciate beauty.
As part of the programme, three students were selected for outstanding photographs. Renuka Jalapathi, B.Sc. Final Year, secured first place and received a ₹2,000 cash prize. Kishore Chintan won second place with a ₹1,000 prize, while T. Mohammed Rafi, BCA Final Year, secured third place and received ₹500. The prizes were presented by Dr. G. Hemant Reddy and Dr. Vamsidhar Reddy.
Nandyal, August 19, 2026: A Financial Awareness Seminar was organised at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal, with the objective of creating awareness among students about financial literacy, investment and money management.
T. Manoj Neelakanta, an expert appointed by SEBI, addressed the students and explained the importance of financial awareness in avoiding fraud and making informed decisions. He elaborated on passive income, mutual funds, compound interest, inflation, trading and long-term investing. He explained that trading is generally a short-term process aimed at profits, while investing is a long-term approach to building wealth.
College Director Dr. G. Hemant Reddy advised students to develop the habit of reading newspapers and staying informed about business and financial developments. He encouraged them to understand real-life stock market case studies and learn how investment decisions are connected with financial resources and market conditions.
Students actively participated in the seminar and shared their views. The college management felicitated T. Manoj Neelakanta for his valuable session. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
Nandyal: The 80th Independence Day celebrations were held with patriotic fervour at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal. Chairman Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy unfurled the national flag and called upon students and youth to play a key role in the development of the nation and pursue their goals with determination.
The programme began with the singing of Vande Mataram. NCC students impressed the gathering with spectacular pyramid formations, while students presented colourful cultural and dance performances.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ramakrishna Reddy recalled the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and highlighted the significance of India’s traditional knowledge systems and valuable information preserved in ancient palm-leaf manuscripts. He specially appreciated Harshitha for her impressive yoga performance and congratulated the students who participated in the cultural programmes.
College Director Dr. G. Hemant Reddy, Principal K.V.B. Subbaiah, Dean A.S. Pragathi and others urged students to use their education for the benefit of society and actively participate in service activities through NSS and NCC.
They called upon the youth to study with discipline and work towards building a developed India by 2047. The celebrations concluded with the National Anthem.
