A Book Launch Ceremony was organized on Friday at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal. The event witnessed the participation of Mr. K. C. Venkatesam, the author of the book; Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu, who reviewed the book; Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, the recipient of the book; Mr. G. Ramesh, Mr. C. Syed Jaffer, Mr. Subbarayudu, members of the Telecom Association, faculty members, and a large number of students.

The programme commenced with the formal release of the book titled “History of Telecommunications in Kurnool District.”

Address by Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy

Receiving the book, Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy expressed his gratitude to the distinguished guests and students who attended the programme.

He spoke about the remarkable evolution of communication technology. He explained that in earlier times, the transmission of information from one person to another took considerable time, whereas modern technology has made communication almost instantaneous, helping prevent delays and reducing risks while saving valuable time.

He appreciated the significant contribution of the telecommunications sector in providing internet connectivity and communication services. Recalling the early days of the college, he noted that telecommunications played a vital role in bringing internet, STD, and telephone facilities to the institution. He also mentioned that the BSNL telecommunications network was among the pioneers in introducing mobile communication services in the region.

Prof. Ramakrishna Reddy praised Mr. K. C. Venkatesam not only for authoring this book but also for writing two other valuable books that would benefit readers. He further appreciated Mr. Venkatesam’s dedication to education, noting that even after his retirement he voluntarily taught English grammar to young students. Wishing him continued success, he encouraged him to write many more books in the future.

Book Review by Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu

Reviewing the book, Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu remarked,

“The greatness of a teacher is reflected in the achievements of his students.”

He appreciated the educational and social initiatives undertaken by Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, stating that his commitment has enabled many students to pursue quality education.

Referring to the book, Dr. Sahadevodu explained that it documents the evolution of telecommunications and modern technology. He said that by reading it, students would clearly understand the differences between communication systems of the past and those of the present. He encouraged students to learn about technological advancements and utilize them responsibly for personal and societal development.

Address by Mr. C. Syed Jaffer

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. C. Syed Jaffer congratulated Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy for receiving the book and expressed his appreciation to Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu, the Telecom Association members, and all the distinguished guests who attended the programme.

He observed that the telecommunications sector continues to develop rapidly, enabling India to compete with technologically advanced nations. He acknowledged the significant role played by Mr. K. C. Venkatesam in establishing the electronic exchange facilities in Nandyal and in strengthening the telecommunications network over the years.

He noted that Mr. Venkatesam worked tirelessly for nearly a decade to improve telecom infrastructure and played a key role in establishing mobile communication towers in Nandyal. He praised the author’s dedication in documenting this valuable history and encouraged everyone to read the book to better understand the development of modern telecommunications.

Author’s Address

Author Mr. K. C. Venkatesam expressed his happiness in dedicating the book to Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy.

He explained that the book provides a comprehensive account of the growth and development of telecommunications technology. He encouraged readers not to let books remain unused on shelves but to share the knowledge they contain with others, thereby spreading awareness and learning.

Mr. Venkatesam recalled that in 2003, when mobile towers were not yet available in the region, the college’s founder Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, along with Shilpa Rao, organized a seminar in Kurnool that significantly contributed to the establishment of mobile communication towers.

He added that one of the objectives behind writing the book was to preserve and highlight the invaluable contribution of BSNL to India’s telecommunications development. He informed the students that the book contains many important historical facts and valuable insights into the evolution of the telecom sector.

As part of the programme, copies of “History of Telecommunications in Kurnool District” were distributed to the students of the college.

In recognition of his contribution, the author Mr. K. C. Venkatesam and members of the Telecom Association felicitated Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy with a ceremonial shawl and memento.

The college management also honored the distinguished guests, including Mr. K. C. Venkatesam, Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu, Mr. C. Syed Jaffer, Mr. G. Ramesh, and Mr. C. Subbarayudu, with shawls and mementoes as a token of appreciation.
