Awareness Seminar on Women Empowerment
As part of the celebrations marking International Women’s Day, an awareness seminar was organized on Tuesday for students at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal. The seminar was conducted by the Women Empowerment Cell of the college with the objective of promoting self-employment opportunities and empowering young women.
The seminar was attended by Ms. Macha Vasundhara, Founder of Aadarana Jute Bags, along with A.S. Pragathi, Dean of Student Affairs, and Dr. Lalitha Saraswathi as chief guests. A large number of students participated in the program.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Lalitha Saraswathi stated that the primary objective of the seminar was to foster personality development among women, create awareness about employment opportunities, and instill confidence in them. She mentioned that such initiatives are being organized with the support of Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of the College, and A.S. Pragathi. She further informed that a series of programs are being conducted in connection with International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8, with self-employment being one of the key themes.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Macha Vasundhara shared her entrepreneurial journey. She explained that life does not always go according to one’s plans. Along with four others, she started a business manufacturing jute bags and jute boxes with an initial investment of ₹10,000. Although they encountered several challenges in the beginning, the support of her husband and family members enabled them to overcome difficulties. Today, the enterprise has grown significantly and generates an annual turnover of approximately ₹45 lakhs. She mentioned that the business has successfully completed seven years of operation.
She emphasized that whatever work one chooses to do, it should be pursued with commitment, consistency, and dedication. Even a small profession can provide livelihood and dignity. She highlighted the importance of time management, values, and systematic planning, stating that work carried out according to a well-defined plan ultimately leads to success.
Vasundhara pointed out that unlike earlier generations, today’s students have abundant opportunities to acquire knowledge and information. She encouraged students to remain informed about employment trends and business opportunities, and to stay resilient even in adverse situations. She advised them not to lose confidence in the face of setbacks and stressed that creating employment opportunities for others is a matter of pride. She urged students to make the best use of available resources to support and uplift others.
She also remarked that education is meaningless if it does not teach respect for teachers and mentors.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of the College, stated that the college is organizing a week-long series of activities on various themes related to self-employment and women empowerment as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. He appreciated the valuable insights shared by Ms. Vasundhara.
A.S. Pragathi, Dean of Student Affairs, observed that no profession should be looked down upon if it benefits society and provides livelihood opportunities to others. She encouraged students to draw inspiration from successful entrepreneurs invited to the college and strive to attain greater heights in their own careers. She emphasized that age is never a barrier to pursuing one’s ambitions and that students should learn how to establish, manage, and expand a business effectively in order to become role models for others.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Ms. Macha Vasundhara was felicitated with a shawl and memento by A.S. Pragathi, Dr. Lalitha Saraswathi, and the students who considered her an inspiration. Faculty members and students actively participated in the event, contributing to its grand success.
