World cancer day
World Cancer Day was celebrated on Saturday at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College College. The Chief Guest for this program was Dr. C. Sushmita Reddy MBBS. MD, Radiology Oncologist and Dr. Surekha Garu Radio Archaologist, College Chairman Professor G.Ramakrishna Reddy Garu, College Director G.Hemanth Reddy Garu, College Estate Manager A.S..Pragathi Reddy Garu, and Upadhyaya – teachers and students were present. College Chairman Professor G. Ramakrishna Reddy spoke in support of the goals of the World Cancer Declaration written in 2008 to raise awareness about cancer, promote its prevention, detection and treatment. He said that by 2020, the aim of the day is to significantly reduce the morbidity and mortality due to cancer, to raise awareness among people, thereby reducing the stigma of cancer and to support those suffering from cancer. A.S. Pragathi Reddy, Estate Manager of the college, says that the incidence of cancer in India is much lower than that of developed countries. However, there is a high mortality rate due to late detection due to many reasons and it is imperative to raise awareness about this deadly disease and prevent its spread to save lives, he said. He said that cancer can be cured if detected early. Although cancer treatments have become more effective in modern times with the advancement of technology, many people in our country still die due to lack of treatment. He said that cancer awareness should be created in India.
