The 4th National Floor Curling Championship, organized by the Andhra Pradesh Curling Association, was inaugurated in a grand manner at the Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College campus in Nandyal. Around 300 players and 50 officials from 15 states across India are participating in this prestigious national-level sporting event. (curlingindia)

The inaugural ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Fayaz, son of the State Minister; Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College; Mr. Vedurula Ramachandra Rao; Dr. G. Abhiruchi Madhu, Advocate; Mr. Surendra Reddy, BJP District President and State Joint Secretary of Kreeda Bharathi; Ms. G. Pragathi, representing the management of Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College; Mr. Rahim, Acting President of the Curling Federation of India; Mr. Mohammad Akeeb, Secretary of the Curling Federation of India; Mrs. Venkateswaramma, President of the Andhra Pradesh Curling Association; Mr. Nimmakayala Sudhakar, General Secretary of Kreeda Bharathi, Nandyal District; and Mr. Sushanth, President of the District Curling Association.

The chief guests officially inaugurated the championship by cutting the ribbon. They later received the athletes’ parade, interacted with participants from different states, and ceremonially launched the tournament by playing the opening floor curling match.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Fayaz, a young leader of the Telugu Desam Party, said that sports play a vital role in developing both the physical and mental strength of youth. He noted that athletes from different states competing on one platform symbolize “Unity in Diversity.” He expressed happiness that Nandyal is hosting a national-level Floor Curling Championship and stated that such events provide young athletes with an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent. He encouraged all participants to compete with true sportsmanship and bring glory to their state and the nation. He also assured his continued support for the development of sports. The other dignitaries emphasized that sports promote discipline, leadership, self-confidence, and national integration among young people. They also highlighted that sports provide rural youth with opportunities to excel at national and international levels. Promoting innovative sports like Floor Curling, they said, would help India gain greater recognition in the global sporting arena.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rahim, Acting President of the Curling Federation of India, and Mr. Mohammad Akeeb, Secretary of the Federation, said that the sport of curling is growing rapidly across the country. They described the championship being held in Andhra Pradesh as an excellent platform for athletes to demonstrate their abilities.

Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, representing the management of Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College, stressed that equal importance should be given to sports alongside education, as sports play a significant role in the holistic development of youth.

Mrs. Venkateswaramma, President of the Andhra Pradesh Curling Association, and Mr. Sushanth, President of the District Curling Association, expressed their gratitude to the guests, athletes, coaches, officials, and organizers for their support in successfully conducting the championship.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from athletes, coaches, officials, sports lovers, students, and local residents from various states. The chief guests congratulated the Andhra Pradesh Curling Association, the management of Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College, and the organizing committee for successfully hosting the national championship in Nandyal. They remarked that such events greatly contribute to the promotion and development of sports.

The organizers also announced that the Prize Distribution Ceremony will be held on Monday, 8 June 2026, at 5:00 PM, during which winners will be presented with trophies, medals, certificates of appreciation, and mementos. Athletes, coaches, officials, sports enthusiasts, and the general public have been invited to attend the ceremony in large numbers.
