Nandyal: The valedictory ceremony of Vanamahotsav Week celebrations, held from July 1 to 7, was conducted grandly on Tuesday at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College.
The program was presided over by the President of the College, Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Garu. The Chief Guest was Sri Shiva Nagi Reddy Garu, Retired Assistant General Manager, Andhra Bank.
On this occasion, Chief Guest Sri Shiva Nagi Reddy Garu said that environmental protection is the responsibility of every individual. He stated that by not only planting saplings but also by protecting them, we can provide a clean and green environment to future generations. College President Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Garu called upon every student to make nature conservation a part of their lifestyle.
NSS Program Officers Smt. M. Sravani Kumari Garu and T. Madhava Reddy Garu explained the details of the activities conducted as part of Vanamahotsav Week, which included sapling plantation, green awareness rally, cleanliness drives, plastic-free campaign, and environmental awareness programs.
As part of the program, an oath for nature conservation was administered to students, faculty, and NSS volunteers. They pledged to protect the environment, conserve plants, and contribute their part to building a clean society.
Faculty members, non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers, and students participated in large numbers in this program. The event concluded successfully with the singing of the National Anthem.
Under the joint auspices of the local Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, District Youth Department and NSS, the birth anniversary celebrations of patriot, renowned educationist and former Union Minister Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee were held in a grand manner on Monday. The program began with a prayer by the college students. District Youth Officer Aijayya Garu, along with college representatives, paid floral tributes and lit the ceremonial lamp at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s portrait.
“Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s services for India’s integrity are unparalleled”: District Youth Officer Aijayya On this occasion, Aijayya Garu gave a detailed address to the students. He said: “The role played by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in safeguarding India’s sovereignty and national integrity deserves to be written in golden letters in history. Not just as a political leader, but also as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University, the reforms he brought in the field of education are highly significant. Every student must realize that the progress of the country lies in the hands of the youth. Today’s generation should not limit itself to personal growth alone, but should cultivate patriotism and discipline. While developing the best leadership qualities in society, they should come forward to render selfless service. Remembering the life and sacrifices of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, all youth must become partners in building a new India,” he called upon.
“Youth should take his ideals as an inspiration”: Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Later, the Chairman of the College, Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Garu, spoke and praised the ideals of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. “Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s life, his ideals, and his struggle for the principles he believed in are a continuous source of inspiration for today’s youth. Students should not restrict themselves to just marks and ranks. Along with achieving the highest standards in education, they must uphold moral values and social responsibility. For the welfare of society and for the development of the nation, everyone must do their part. No matter how many obstacles and hindrances come in the path of social service, we must stand with courage, take Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as our role model, and move forward. The true tribute we can pay him is for all students to rededicate themselves to serving the nation,” he stated.
Grand Felicitation – Prize Distribution: On this occasion, the college management felicitated District Youth Officer Aijayya Garu, who has rendered remarkable service in the fields of education and social welfare, with a shawl, garland and presented him a memento. Following this, as part of the celebrations, prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions conducted for students by Aijayya Garu.
The College Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, and a large number of students participated in this program and offered floral tributes to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. On this occasion, all the students took an oath to remain committed to national progress and social service. The program concluded successfully with the singing of the National Anthem.
The “Mahaa Punarmilanam” program for the (MBA 2006 – 2008) batch of students was held in a grand manner on Saturday at the Sri Ramakrishna Degree College campus in Nandyal. Alumni who completed their education together at this same college 18 years ago came together again on one stage. This heartfelt reunion was organized under the name “The Grand Reunion – After 18 Unforgettable Years”. The event began traditionally with the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’.
Welcome Address by Sri B. Ravikrishna Garu: B. Ravikrishna Garu welcomed everyone who attended the program and spoke with deep emotion. “Meeting all of us here today is a wonderful feeling. Sri Ramakrishna Degree College did not just teach us academics; it laid a strong foundation for the success of our lives. 18 years ago, when we were students, it was this very stage, this very dais, this very podium that removed the stage fear in us and taught us the courage and culture to speak confidently in society. I express my heartfelt gratitude to the respected Ramakrishna Sir, who gave me the right direction and continuous guidance to reach this level in my professional life.”
Address by Sri Krishnudu Garu: Sri Krishnudu Garu, a former college lecturer and currently a faculty member at Sri Krishnadevaraya University, was very happy to see the alumni. “In my teaching journey, Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Sir was always a great support to me. During that time, I learned a lot from Sir about student discipline and responsibilities. As a teacher, I have a very strong bond with you, my students. The mischief you did back then, the things you did, and the attention you showed toward studies… seeing you all in such high positions today brings all those memories alive before my eyes. Seeing you all together on one stage after 18 years gives me immense joy that I cannot express in words. My blessings are always with all of you.”
Keynote Message by Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Garu: Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Garu, the head of the college and a renowned educationist, gave a detailed address guiding the students. “I am very happy to see all of you together after so many years. Time has changed very fast. There is a big difference between your youthful selves from 18 years ago and your present selves, who have matured with family responsibilities. That’s why when I first saw you, I couldn’t even immediately recognize who was who. However, do not stop here after achieving success in life. We should not limit ourselves to just searching for information on Google. For the sake of our children, for the next generation, and for society, we must share our knowledge and experience. We should continuously conduct training programs and serve as proper mentors to the current students. Remember… the knowledge we have gained is never wasted; the more we share it with others, the more our knowledge grows. To illustrate how important reforms in the education sector are: Currently, under the Saraswati Vidyapeetham, about 600,000 Gurukuls, 72 universities, and 1,830 English-medium schools are spread across the country providing educational services. We must always stand by people who work day and night for the welfare of society and for the progress of the nation. My thanks to all of you for organizing this wonderful event.”
Guru Vandana and Felicitation Ceremony: After the speeches, all the alumni expressed their gratitude to their teachers. The head of the educational institutions, Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy Garu, and their beloved lecturer Krishnudu Sir, who taught them, were honored grandly with shawls and garlands. Following this, the college management presented special mementos to all the alumni as a remembrance of this sweet occasion. The Mahaa Punarmilanam event concluded in a very joyful atmosphere with group photos taken with old friends and teachers.
A Book Launch Ceremony was organized on Friday at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal. The event witnessed the participation of Mr. K. C. Venkatesam, the author of the book; Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu, who reviewed the book; Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, the recipient of the book; Mr. G. Ramesh, Mr. C. Syed Jaffer, Mr. Subbarayudu, members of the Telecom Association, faculty members, and a large number of students.
The programme commenced with the formal release of the book titled “History of Telecommunications in Kurnool District.”
Address by Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy
Receiving the book, Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy expressed his gratitude to the distinguished guests and students who attended the programme.
He spoke about the remarkable evolution of communication technology. He explained that in earlier times, the transmission of information from one person to another took considerable time, whereas modern technology has made communication almost instantaneous, helping prevent delays and reducing risks while saving valuable time.
He appreciated the significant contribution of the telecommunications sector in providing internet connectivity and communication services. Recalling the early days of the college, he noted that telecommunications played a vital role in bringing internet, STD, and telephone facilities to the institution. He also mentioned that the BSNL telecommunications network was among the pioneers in introducing mobile communication services in the region.
Prof. Ramakrishna Reddy praised Mr. K. C. Venkatesam not only for authoring this book but also for writing two other valuable books that would benefit readers. He further appreciated Mr. Venkatesam’s dedication to education, noting that even after his retirement he voluntarily taught English grammar to young students. Wishing him continued success, he encouraged him to write many more books in the future.

Reviewing the book, Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu remarked,
“The greatness of a teacher is reflected in the achievements of his students.”
He appreciated the educational and social initiatives undertaken by Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, stating that his commitment has enabled many students to pursue quality education.
Referring to the book, Dr. Sahadevodu explained that it documents the evolution of telecommunications and modern technology. He said that by reading it, students would clearly understand the differences between communication systems of the past and those of the present. He encouraged students to learn about technological advancements and utilize them responsibly for personal and societal development.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. C. Syed Jaffer congratulated Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy for receiving the book and expressed his appreciation to Dr. Gelivi Sahadevodu, the Telecom Association members, and all the distinguished guests who attended the programme.
He observed that the telecommunications sector continues to develop rapidly, enabling India to compete with technologically advanced nations. He acknowledged the significant role played by Mr. K. C. Venkatesam in establishing the electronic exchange facilities in Nandyal and in strengthening the telecommunications network over the years.
He noted that Mr. Venkatesam worked tirelessly for nearly a decade to improve telecom infrastructure and played a key role in establishing mobile communication towers in Nandyal. He praised the author’s dedication in documenting this valuable history and encouraged everyone to read the book to better understand the development of modern telecommunications.

Author Mr. K. C. Venkatesam expressed his happiness in dedicating the book to Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy.
He explained that the book provides a comprehensive account of the growth and development of telecommunications technology. He encouraged readers not to let books remain unused on shelves but to share the knowledge they contain with others, thereby spreading awareness and learning.
Mr. Venkatesam recalled that in 2003, when mobile towers were not yet available in the region, the college’s founder Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, along with Shilpa Rao, organized a seminar in Kurnool that significantly contributed to the establishment of mobile communication towers.
He added that one of the objectives behind writing the book was to preserve and highlight the invaluable contribution of BSNL to India’s telecommunications development. He informed the students that the book contains many important historical facts and valuable insights into the evolution of the telecom sector.
As part of the programme, copies of “History of Telecommunications in Kurnool District” were distributed to the students of the college.
In recognition of his contribution, the author Mr. K. C. Venkatesam and members of the Telecom Association felicitated Prof. Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy with a ceremonial shawl and memento.

As part of the Van Mahotsav Week celebrations, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Sri Ramakrishna PG College organized a Green Awareness Rally on the second day of the programme to promote environmental conservation and the importance of tree plantation.
The rally was organized with the objective of creating public awareness about environmental protection, afforestation, and the need to increase green cover for a sustainable future.
The rally commenced from the college campus and proceeded up to SBI Corner. During the rally, NSS volunteers and students carried flip cards displaying environmental messages and raised slogans such as:

“Protecting the Environment is the Responsibility of Every Citizen”
Throughout the rally, members of the public, shopkeepers, and commuters enthusiastically observed and appreciated the students’ efforts to spread awareness.
The NSS volunteers emphasized that maintaining ecological balance, reducing pollution, and planting and nurturing trees are essential for creating a healthier environment for future generations. They encouraged everyone to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives by planting and protecting trees.

On the occasion of National Chartered Accountants’ Day, the Department of Commerce of Sri Ramakrishna Autonomous Degree College, Nandyal, organized an awareness seminar for undergraduate students to highlight the significance of the Chartered Accountancy profession.
The programme was presided over by Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Educational Institutions. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Paluru Gopikrishna, a Chartered Accountant from Nandyal and an alumnus of the college.
Addressing the students, Mr. Gopikrishna emphasized the growing importance of the Commerce stream in today’s rapidly evolving economy. He explained that knowledge of Chartered Accountancy (CA) plays a vital role not only in finance and accounting but also in general management, business administration, taxation, auditing, and corporate decision-making.
Speaking about the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), he highlighted its significant contribution to the economic development of both the states and the nation through a more transparent and efficient taxation system. He encouraged students to consider pursuing the Chartered Accountancy course after completing their degree. While many students perceive the CA course as difficult, he assured them that with determination, consistent effort, and hard work, success is achievable. He also patiently answered several questions raised by the students regarding the CA profession, career opportunities, and the examination process.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of the college, stated that the Department of Commerce is one of the most prominent departments of the institution, with more than 300 students enrolling every year. He remarked that Commerce is a discipline that greatly benefits students, society, and the nation by developing financial literacy, managerial skills, and entrepreneurial thinking.
He explained that awareness programmes such as the celebration of National Chartered Accountants’ Day are organized to motivate students to explore rewarding professional careers. Referring to the National Education Policy (NEP), he noted that significant reforms have been introduced, and students should take advantage of the new opportunities available to them.
Dr. Ramakrishna Reddy further observed that India’s ancient knowledge systems included principles related to economics and commerce. He cited Kautilya’s Arthashastra as a classic example, explaining that it scientifically described subjects such as state administration, treasury management, taxation, and financial governance. He remarked that many concepts in modern commerce have their roots in these ancient Indian traditions.
He encouraged students to pursue professional qualifications such as Chartered Accountancy after graduation and strive for excellence in their careers. Expressing his happiness, he noted that the college’s alumnus, Mr. Paluru Gopikrishna, has established himself as a highly respected Chartered Accountant in Nandyal, serving as an inspiration for the present generation of students. He wished that today’s students would also achieve similar success and return to the college in the future as distinguished guests.

Nandyal, July 1: Sri Ramakrishna Degree College, Nandyal, celebrated National Doctors’ Day with great enthusiasm on Wednesday by organizing a special awareness programme honoring the invaluable contributions of medical professionals.
The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. C. Madhusudhan Rao, a renowned ENT specialist from Nandyal and former President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Nandyal District. The programme was attended by Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Educational Institutions, faculty members M. Imtiaz Ahmed, M. Sravani Kumari, M.S.R. Prasad, other teaching staff, and a large gathering of students.
The event commenced in a traditional manner with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed by a prayer song.

Ms. M. Sravani Kumari, Assistant Professor, Department of Management, welcomed the gathering and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Madhusudhan Rao for accepting the college’s invitation despite his demanding schedule of serving patients.
Recalling the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic, she emphasized that doctors had risked their own lives, stayed away from their families, and worked tirelessly day and night to save thousands of lives.
“Doctors are the living gods who protect our lives. It is the responsibility of every individual in society to respect the medical profession and its practitioners,” she said.
She then led all the students in taking a solemn pledge to always honor and respect doctors for their selfless service to society.
Inspirational Address by M.S.R. Prasad
Mr. M.S.R. Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, delivered a motivational speech emphasizing the timeless saying, “Health is Wealth.”
He explained that no matter how wealthy a person may be, health cannot simply be purchased with money once it is lost. Referring to today’s digital era, he cautioned students against relying entirely on Google searches or Artificial Intelligence (AI) for medical advice, warning that self-diagnosis could be dangerous. Instead, he urged them to consult qualified medical professionals whenever health issues arise.
Quoting the Sanskrit phrase “Vaidyo Narayano Hari” (The doctor is equivalent to Lord Narayana), he highlighted that the true value of a doctor is realized during life-threatening situations and called upon everyone to remain grateful to the medical fraternity.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Educational Institutions, praised the indispensable role of doctors in nation-building and community welfare.
Introducing the chief guest to the students, he said that Dr. Madhusudhan Rao’s contributions extend far beyond hospital services.
“Dr. Madhusudhan Rao has established a charitable trust to support higher education for economically disadvantaged students and provide medical assistance to the poor. As Director of Kalaaradhana, he has been identifying talented school students and mentoring them towards excellence.”
He further appreciated Dr. Rao’s pioneering efforts in utilizing modern technology, noting that he was among the first in the Nandyal region to telecast live surgeries for the benefit of fellow medical professionals.
Prof. Ramakrishna Reddy also admired Dr. Rao’s passion for theatre and fine arts. Recalling India’s glorious medical heritage, he spoke about the legendary ancient surgeon Sushruta, regarded as the Father of Plastic Surgery, and remarked that Sushruta’s statue in London stands as a matter of pride for every Indian.

Keynote Address by Dr. C. Madhusudhan Rao
Delivering an inspiring keynote address, Dr. C. Madhusudhan Rao, eminent ENT specialist and chief guest, elaborated on the vital role of modern medicine (Allopathy) in improving public health and protecting humanity from life-threatening diseases.
He emphasized that:
“Age is just a number. How active we remain depends entirely on how well we maintain our physical and mental health.”
Sharing his own experiences, he explained that even today his mornings begin with complex surgeries, proving that one can remain energetic and productive even in later years.
He also introduced students to the services provided by Madhu Mani Nursing Home.
Speaking about his commitment to society, Dr. Rao shared the inspiring story of leading the modernization of the Hindu crematorium on Bhimavaram Road. Personally visiting households, he helped mobilize nearly ₹4 crore in donations to develop the crematorium with modern facilities.
He further explained the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai—the secret to a meaningful and long life—encouraging students to discover purpose, reduce stress, and lead balanced lives.
Presenting historical statistics, he noted that India’s average life expectancy was about 41 years in 1950, whereas today it has increased to approximately 71–72 years, thanks to revolutionary advancements in medical science and technology.
Two Golden Principles for Healthy Living
Dr. Rao advised students to follow two essential principles for lifelong health:
1. Balanced Nutrition: Avoid junk food and consume a nutritious, balanced diet every day to strengthen immunity and prevent the majority of diseases.
2. Early Detection: Modern medical technology has advanced tremendously. Most diseases can be treated successfully if they are diagnosed in their early stages, significantly improving the chances of complete recovery.
Interactive Session and Prize Distribution
Following his lecture, an engaging interactive session was conducted where students raised questions related to health, medical education, career opportunities in medicine, and lifestyle management.
Dr. Madhusudhan Rao patiently answered every question with simple explanations and practical examples, making the session highly informative and engaging.
Students who actively participated by asking questions were presented with spiral notebooks and pens as tokens of encouragement. Among them, two students who posed the most thoughtful and insightful questions received special prizes from Dr. Rao.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Chairman, Principal, teaching and non-teaching staff, and a large number of students.
The celebration concluded on a patriotic note with the singing of the National Anthem, marking the successful completion of a memorable and inspiring National Doctors’ Day celebration.
The NSS and NCC Units of Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College (Autonomous), Nandyal, in association with the Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Trust, celebrated Eruvaka Pournami with traditional fervour at the premises of Sri Panduranga Swamy Temple in Pandurangapuram village, Nandyal district.
As part of the celebrations, bullocks were beautifully decorated and special rituals were performed amidst the chanting of Vedic hymns. A ceremonial procession featuring the decorated bullocks was taken through the village. Special prayers were then offered to Lord Panduranga Swamy, seeking prosperity for farmers and a bountiful harvest.
The Chief Guest, Mr. Dasari Srinivasulu, stated that Eruvaka Pournami is a symbol of India’s rich agricultural heritage. He described farmers as the backbone of the nation and emphasized that preserving and passing on agricultural traditions to future generations is the responsibility of every citizen.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman of Sri Ramakrishna Degree & PG College, Prof. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, said that the primary objective of organizing such programmes is to instill respect among students for Indian culture, the hard work of farmers, and the nation’s agricultural traditions.
The Dean of Academics, Mrs. Pragathi, highlighted the importance of NSS and NCC activities in nurturing a spirit of service among students while creating awareness about rural culture and agricultural values.
On this occasion, five women farmers were honoured with shawls and presented with paddy as a mark of appreciation for their valuable contribution to agriculture.

As part of the celebrations, students of the college presented a traditional folk dance based on an Eruvaka song, depicting the significance of Eruvaka Pournami. Their performance captivated the audience and received enthusiastic applause from the villagers and guests.

Sri Ramakrishna Degree College organized a special awareness programme to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with the objective of educating students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of leading a drug-free life.
The programme was graced by Ms. Manda Javali Alphons, IPS, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, she explained the adverse impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. She urged the youth to stay away from narcotic substances and develop into responsible and socially conscious citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Pragathi, Dean (Academics), emphasized the importance of awareness and education in preventing drug abuse. She encouraged students to cultivate good habits and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The Principal of the college, Mr. K.B.V. Subbaiah, stated that drug addiction can destroy the future of students and advised them to stay away from such harmful practices while focusing on their education. He also called upon everyone to take collective responsibility in building a drug-free society.

International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Sri Ramakrishna Degree College (Autonomous), Nandyal, under the joint auspices of Kreeda Bharathi, Nandyal and Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Nandyal. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, NSS and NCC volunteers.
On this occasion, the Chairman of the college, Dr. G. Ramakrishna Reddy, stated that yoga is a priceless gift India has given to the world. He emphasized that regular practice of yoga enhances both physical and mental well-being and encouraged every student to make yoga an integral part of their daily life.
The Director of the college, Dr. G. Hemanth Reddy, highlighted that yoga helps reduce stress, improves concentration, and plays a vital role in promoting a healthy lifestyle among students.
The Principal, Dr. K.B.V. Subbaiah, explained the significance of International Yoga Day. He noted that yoga strengthens physical fitness, promotes mental peace, and fosters emotional balance. He also appreciated everyone who contributed to the successful organization of the event.
During the programme, Mrs. Lalitha Saraswathi, Yoga Instructor, demonstrated various yoga asanas and pranayama techniques to the students and faculty members while explaining their importance and health benefits. She emphasized that yoga improves physical health, mental peace, concentration, and self-confidence. Under her guidance, the participants enthusiastically performed the yoga practices and gained a deeper understanding of the benefits of yoga.
The programme was attended by Mrs. Pragathi, Dean of Academics, faculty members, non-teaching staff, NSS and NCC volunteers, and students. With the active support and cooperation of everyone, the event concluded successfully.
The programme concluded with the recitation of the Yoga Shanti Mantra, followed by the National Anthem. All the participants pledged to work towards building a healthier society through the practice of yoga, making the International Yoga Day celebrations a grand success.
